Definition
of DABAGI: “DABAGI” the word
derived from indigenous Chakma language means sharing equally. Chakma
indigenous community has the tradition to share something (Such as paddy,
vegetable, food, drinks etc.) with people living in its vicinity and as well as
with their relatives.
Backgrounds of DABAGI:DABAGI is a voluntary group formed with some 10
indigenous youths from CHT and its support partner named “One Step for Future”
formed of 10 Japanese youth.At
the very beginning it had a huge purpose to establish relationship with
Japanese friends and gradually work for capacity development of underprivileged
children, youth and communities of the CHT.
Youth are the future leader or actor
in the development process of a nation or society; they are with full of energy
and potential to lead a society with best practices toward peace and
development. DABAGI youth formed for the same, to realize their potentiality
and work for development with best practices which are been observed, learned and
understood from their partners’ sharing, cultural exchange and other cooperation
activities. Besides studying the DABAGI youth members are also working actively
at the community level under some project to share the learned knowledge and
mobilizing them for economic and livelihood development.

To support and empower sustainable
life of marginalized indigenous peoples in CHT.
Vision:

Socially- To
enrich student’s knowledge and awareness of social issues through curricular
activities to cope with the global world.

Economically-To empower rural people’s ability
of living in order to provide education for all

preserve important indigenous culture and identity to next generation
Planned
Activities:
1.
Socially- To
organize debate competition, drawing competition, setting up library, setting
up tube well, tree plantation,
2.
Economically-
Pig project, horticulture, weaving traditional clothes, turmeric, zinger and
banana cultivation.
3.
Culturally-
Handicraft, supporting to publish magazine, publishing wall magazine,
collecting indigenous valuable books, support to organize indigenous cultural
show.
The
social structure of CHT indigenous community is different from other part of
Bangladesh. Geographically the CHT is located in remote area with natural
beauty.
So
the remote areas people do not have proper health and sanitation opportunities,
the schools and colleges.
The
economic condition is not good considering other part of the country. They
almost live in hand to mouth especially in rural villages. There is beautiful
indigenous culture, however, at present it is sub culture in Bangladesh and it
is getting lost because of lack of proper preservation.
DABAGI Objectives:
1.
Income Generation Program for
educationalprivilege to children of CHT indigenous communities.
2.
Establish strong relationship
between Indigenous youth of CHT and Japanese youth for cultural exchange and
sharing best lifestyle practices.
3.
To organized cultural program,
debate, and drawing competition for indigenous students.
4.
Tree plantation activity to green
environment.
5.
To
organize village people and innovate different Income Generation Activity (IGA)
for their livelihood security.
